Exterior Log Refinish and Front Entry

This log home refinish construction project’s scope of work was to complete the exterior log refinish and to do an addition, which was a front entry and porch.

  • The existing log finish was over 30 years old and didn’t match the log finish on the newer garage.
  • So we sanded all of the finish off of the log exterior.
  • next we applied finish and clear top coat.
  • Then we had the whole house and garage chinked.
  • Log homes are built with a space between the log work. The space is filled with a backer rod and then chinking is applied both inside and out. Modern chinking has great adhesion and elastomeric properties, allowing it to expand and contract as the logs move.
  • Log home caulking is used to seal cracks that may permit insects or weather to penetrate down into the log. Log caulking is also used around door and window openings, notched corners, and between log courses as a preventative measure to stop air infiltration. A wide range of colors allows you to match the color of log finish you use.
